Partial IGETC Certification question

Hello, everybody. I have a couple of quick questions. I am attending CC hoping to transfer via IGETC. I am having trouble with my English class during the summer so I'm thinking of dropping it. It would be with a W but I think it's justified. I just chose my major over the weekend, Linguistics, and I found out that a Linguistics class would cover an IGETC area in the Social Sciences. This class is only available at another CC, not the one I'm attending. The English Course covers a humanities requirement, and the Linguistics course covers a social science class according to the other CC's list. I already have the 3 required social science classes. A journalism class and two history courses. The IGETC listing of my CC also states that those history courses may cover a humanities requirement. My first question is: can I choose what area of IGETC I want the courses applied to or is it the school's decision?

My second question is that since the Linguistics course is at another school, and there is no equivalent at my CC, they can't give me a full IGETC certification, would sending the partial certification and the transcript for the grade at the other CC for the Linguistics class be viewed as full IGETC by UC admissions?

I appreciate any input that you guys can give me in this, and also any info on if I should drop the class and how bad a W would look.

Meet with a counselor.

only your CC can give you an IGETC form…the UC’s look at the form, not random classes you tack on later. The IGETC is filled out by someone from your CC. You should talk to your CC to see if they can waive it after you get transcripts sent over from the other CC to your current place of attendance…
