can a college not like a high school?

if the last few people who've applied/went to that college:

1) failed out
2) got arrested for drugs
3) all went to another school instead
4) backed out of ED
5) committed suicide?

College admissions officers have memories.

If they have been told things by a guidance counselor which are less than truthful, or feel like the truth has been stretched too much, then the admissions officer could use that fact or pattern against future applicants.

This is very true. For some reason my high school does not get along with Cornell. (Only one kid there has been accepted there in the past 5 years, somebody who got a 36 on the act and goes to harvard now was rejected)

i guess i'm not going to MIT then

Don't give up hope. Seriously, if you are worried, you could always offer to meet the admissions officers.

I have been one of like maybe 3 people to come to my college from my high school in six years. My high school ranked very low in state testing. I am also originally from a state most places make fun of if you are not from the northern end. So I understand.

yeah the only people that ever get into stanford at my school are athletic recruits.

we don't have a good relationship with Stanford, only a recruited athlete got in, not even someone who got into harvard/princeton/columbia got into stanford. Our rival school however sent over 5 people to stanford in one year, and i doubt they were more spectacular than our students.

My math teacher says that MIT hates my school. No one's gotten in for ages.

I think we have a decent relationship with Penn, Bucknell, and Lafayette. We still only sent like 2 or 3 kids each year though.... 2 got into Penn last year. Not too shabby, but my school is still an epic fail imo.

A friend of mine's school has bad relations w/ Brown
