i got a 29 composite on the act's (32 math, 28 english) but a 1210/1600 on the SAT's. Will my act, which is like a 1350 on the sat scale, be used in my admissions decision. Will adcoms overlook my sat and give me the benefit of the doubt?

A 29 converts to about a 1270 to my knowledge.

I'll just go ahead and say that your SAT score is not bad, and that you shouldn't worry so much about it. If the rest of your app is strong, you're still in the running.

29 is just on the low end of Cornell's middle 50% range. So you are still in the running. If you have a good GPA, ECs, Recs and essays you should get accepted.

yale admissions told me that they start taking at 29...

And there you have it! Don't worry so much.

I'm in a similar situation (Although my SAT score of 2190 isn't really bad, it's just not as impressive as a 35 ACT). They claim that only your highest score will be taken into consideration but I'm pretty sure that they will still see the lower SAT score, which in the end might influence their decision in some way (the adcoms would deny this, but it's probably true).

The good news for me is that CALS did not require SAT IIs, which meant that I didn't have to send the whole package of scores from Collegeboard. However, I'm a New Yorker and practically everyone here takes the SATs so not having the scores might look a bit suspicious to the adcoms. Ultimately, I was willing to take the chance since after converting my ACT score to its SAT counterpart, I realized that the difference was considerable (~150 points) and I would rather not let them see the lower one if I could help it.

-_- wow.

bush barely made it? (using act -> sat conversions)

even if you send in both, they will consider the higher score. when i had to send in my SAT score for them to see my SAT IIs, they definitely considered my ACT

Whats the average ACT score for Cornell?
