My dad is the president of a company but he does not own it. I submitted all other required materials but now the school is requesting the company's tax returns. My parents are upset about this as they don't think it's any of their business since he doesn't own the company. I mean, we obviously could get and send the tax returns if they really need them, but they feel it is an invasion of privacy to ask for something like that.

Extra: the business would not show a huge profit at all, so they are not worried a/b that. They just don't feel comfortable sending it and said that it doesn't sound legal.

I suggest your father call the financial aid office to discuss this with them. They obviously are looking for something ... he needs to find out what they are concerned about. They may not actually need what they are asking for. Your dad needs to find out what they really want to know.

thx my dad is a little...stressed as of now so my mom suggested we have our accountant (who's very nice and does all of our tax returns, inc. business and personal) to speak with the Director and see what exactly it is she would like and to explain things hopefully.

That's a great idea. It sounds like the school is trying to get a clearer picture about things, so the accountant will be able to sort out what info is needed & figure out how to supply it to the school. There are lots of reasons why a school might want more info ... you would be amazed at how many people try to hide income, and the school may be trying to make sure that isn't happening. There are other, less "suspect" reasons for wanting additional info, too, of course!

yeah that makes sense at least they're not just saying no already!
