Like if I will be finished with 60 credits, can all the credits be transferred? and if i finish with 65 credits, will they just take 60? if so, what the 5 credits will be? will they be main classes like math, english science or sub classes like fine arts classes?

You have to get your transferable courses and credits evaluated at the school you will transfer to.

For transfers from community colleges to same-state public universities, this may have already been done (e.g. in California, see [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) ). Some universities like University of Michigan, have done this evaluation for out of state or four year universities that students may transfer from as well.

There may also be policies on maximum credits transferred, though you should still get subject credit for each transferable course.

Thanks. And can someone suggest a good way to avoid extra classese taken at the old school?which will be a waste of money.

Depends on the school. In Illinois most schools will accept other Illinois school’s credit. Pretty sure most places will take your general classes but may be picky about the higher level ones or specialty applied courses.

If the articulation agreements are published as listed above, then it is easy to figure out what you should and should not take. If not, you can make your best guess by comparing course catalogs, or asking the department at the destination school. No one here can tell you, at least not if you do not say which schools are involved.

If you are changing between schools on different calendars (e.g. quarter versus semester), be especially careful with sequenced courses to avoid partial overlaps that will require you to repeat partial courses. E.g. if there is a one year sequence, and you take only one semester and then transfer to a quarter school, you may have to take two of the three quarters, partially repeating the semester taken previously.

Just out of curiousity, when you choose which credits you want to have transfer do you need to have all the prereqs come with you or can you just bring the relevant stuff. For example; I’ll have finished linear algebra by the time I transfer, do I need to transfer the credit for intro to linear algebra (the prereq) or can I use linear as both of those? I ask because I’ll have over 60 credits and I don’t want to repeat classes
