Can an essay be too short?

It says the essay should be 500 words or less [sic], but does anyone have an idea for how few words one could write? 250? 300?

Mine was 250, if that. <_<. I like to get right to the point (I mean, not 100 words, but not.. too many) and I don't think it's necessary to fluff up essays like Why Penn. Idk, you're not the only one.

Edit - Oops, I'm in the Brown forum. Oh well, this post still stands :P.

All of my essays have long, creative introductions (I don't merely start with "I like Brown because...) so mine are nearly 500 words long. However, your essays might be refreshingly short to an overworked, disgruntled admissions officer.

Yeah, and why doesn't Brown, one of the most respectable schools in the United States, use proper grammar in its essay prompts. "500 words or less"?
