Can any one help me compare GWU and Howard BS/MD program? Which is better? I am not sure if any of these programs are better or worse than others out there? I like DC area but I am little concerned about the quality of Howard University. Thanks

MD is MD, no matter where you graduated from. There is no diff. in income or anythihg else.

I agree. There are lots of intangibles in the equation
- Quality of education matters to me
- Cost of education, of course
- USMLE passing rate
- Residency Matching

Going to a U.S. allopathic school at all is the best thing you can do to forward your medical career. With that said, I would definitely go to the place that costs less. In this case, Howard wins. (plus, their six year program appeals to me, personally, more than GWU’s 7 year program)

As for the Residency matching, that is mostly dependent on your USMLE score…which is entirely dependent on how well you actually want to do on it. Study hard, and rock STEP I, and you should be fine. What kind of specialties are you interested in anyway?

I am looking for Heart Surgery or Cardiology or just the General Surgery.

Then you shouldn’t have a hard time pursuing those surgical specialties if you graduate from either Howard or GWU. Now all that matters is where you want to go. I would (personally) go to Howard’s BS/MD program.

You could probably pursue those specialties from either medical school, but Howard’s BS/MD program is geared more towards those who are going into primary care in underserved areas. I think you should look into other programs, like the Drexel ones. Money isn’t everything and you shouldn’t settle for Howard just because it appears “easier” to get into and is more affordable. Look into other factors, like how safe/comfortable you feel amongst the student body.
