I need to send in my housing stuff, and I'd like to know which kind would best suit someone like me. If anyone could give me any advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

I live in DC, middle class, and attend a large and diverse public school. I'm Asian, but English is my only language really.

Should I be considering the private dorms? Which dorms are terrible and should be avoided at all costs?

Well, been looking through the brochure, and am really considering Towers. I didn't know the privates got their own bathrooms, and that does appeal to me a lot.

How much is the price difference between the private and normal dorms?

Is the price worth it?

Are the people who live at the privates more snobby, or different than everyone else?

Is it mainly freshmen living in the private dorms?

DON'T stay in the private dorms no matter what, especially if you aren't one of the following: rich, jewish, from the east coast. I know that may sound wrong and stereotypical, but it's the truth. From my experience, the private dorms are in their own little world with types of people that don't fully represent the true diversity of the university. Try and get into one of the public dorms. Sellery, Witte, Ogg and Chadbourne make up the southeast dorms which are more or less seen as the "party" dorms. Chadbourne though is a residential college, with most of the freshmen and sophmore Honors students living there. I also am currently living in the Chad. Stay away from Ogg though as it is, to say bluntly, a piece of crap. The lakeshore dorms are very nice, but present a totally different feel, more along the lines of a small liberal arts college as they are a bit secluded from the hustle and bustle of main campus. Hope this helps!

Thanks a lot for the info. Yeah, I was worried that people in the private dorms would be those types of stereotypical people. Can anyone convince me otherwise?

I'm thinking towards a dorm in the Southeast, as I'd like to be in the main part of campus. Chadbourne is sounding nice right now, but what sort of extra things do you have to do?

I guess I'd prefer to not be in Ogg, and I'm not hearing very nice things about Sellery or Witte either.

Problem is, I don't really want a Lakeshore dorm either, although I do like a calmer spot, I'd still like to be out and about and a part of the campus life. Any tips or extra info? How far away from the parties and social scene are the lakeshore dorms? Are the people there considered "outcasts." Can you still get to parties easily and make friends with people in the southeast dorms, etc?

I guess for now, I'm putting Chadbourne down as my number 1 choice.

Yeah, Chadbourne has the best balance of all the dorms, but just make sure you make an effort to be active in certain areas that interest you, since they are all about interest groups and meeting new people. Although it definately is still a party dorm, it has mostly people that I wouldn't say are more intelligent than people in other dorms, but are more focused.

Hi Roosh, just wondering if you could give me some more info on the Lakeshore dorms. I talked to a person from Wisconsin and they recommended the lakeshore dorms. Whats your opinion on Kronsage?

I visited UW-Madison this past Friday and looked at the Towers private dorm. It was sooo nice and thats where ill be staying next year!! The rooms are very nice as well as the game room, movie room, lobby and cafeteria. The people seemed really nice too. You should definately look into it!
