That’s not true, alam. Don’t be so quick to discourage. Writing ability and passion for a school are two different things. I am sure that the OP has plenty a good reason he wants to be at Emory and just wishes to see some successful approaches.

In general, the “Why First Choice University?” Essays require that you do your homework and really get to know the school and its academic and social offerings (I mean the networking, not the frat parties)

I’ve done a bit of research and in the process of doing more. I think i’m going to end up with a pretty good list of reasons why i want to attend. I’m just having trouble putting it together and having my ideas flow. It’s the first college essay i’m writing and I’ve checked out some books of sample essays but the ones in those books aren’t really “Why” essays…

Use your visit there as a guide. What did you see that you liked? Imagine yourself being there…what does it look like? Figure out some specifics as to why you want to go there. Hopefully you visited, since they like that.

If you really care about the school than show thet. Let them know that you really want to study at Emory and aren’t just another shmuck applying for a big name. Get really specific - mention the classes you visited, buildings, the programs that interest you, maybe a literary publication. Show your passion without sounding like you’re begging to be accepted. Talk about how your interests and personality make you a great fit for the school. Mention something you might contribute to the campus life/body without being pretentious or bragging about your accomplishments too much.
