What do you most like about Emory? I'm having trouble saying anything other than "It's really good, and Atlanta is nice."

Do research! Perhaps talk about a certain department's strengths, or a club name that catches your eye, a story of your own campus visit, our mascot Dooley, the feel of the campus, the people you've meet etc. ANYTHING that you feel makes Emory stand out, besides "the top USNEWS ranker out of all the other schools I applied to". Perhaps take a small idea, like the existence of a club and compare it to a larger concept representing the entire university community. And don't be afraid to be daring!

I made an offer about a year ago on these boards that I'll make again. PM me or post here and I'll send you a copy of my "Why Emory" essay (I'm a sophomore there now). Although it's pretty specific, it might still give you some ideas of how to set about writing yours.

Good Luck!

DDB's essay is amazing! You should definitely read it. Did you visit the school? I didn't have a clue as to what I wanted to talk about in the essay until I visited and boy, did I have a lot to say. So if you can, attend a tour.

Better question: How long is the essay supposed to be?

Thank you for your advice Daydreambeliever. Can you pm the essay for review? I have a few ideas of my own I want to compare thank you so much
multitasker

VivaLaCollege: I talked to an admissions counselor and he said that it be should no more than 1 page double spaced...I mean I'm sure you could do more but that's what they prefer

Then mine was way over, I tried but I couldnt cut it down. It was a little bit over a page single spaced, but that could be partialy due to the spaces between my paragraphs.

I just read DayDreamBeliever's Why Emory essay, wow. It was so unique, not like traditional essays where you wish it was over after the first paragraph. But this one really kept my attention the whole way, it was funny too. I applied EDI and wish I had thought of somthing creative to write like that; thanks for sending it to me!

DayDreamBeliever, can you PM me your essay as well. Maybe I will meet you. I am going on a tour at the end of February when I will be in Atlanta visiting family.
Thanks...

DDB, I am currently having some trouble with my Why Emory essay as well. Would you mind PMing a copy of yours to me?

DayDreamBeliever, it would be awesome if you could PM me your essay, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Wow, DayDreamBeliever, what an essay!

Thanks a lot, I think this will prove useful in crafting my own, (hopefully!) successful "Why Emory?" essay.

way to be original

DDB, I have a question, for a person who can't or doesnt want to get to a computer to check the decisions: When the acutal acceptace letter comes in the mail from Emory is it in a small envelope, or a large one, is it thin or Bulky, is it just the letter inside or did it have attachments?.... sorry for so many questions, but only a few days left and nerves are running wild... thanks

Noelle, it's a pretty regular size in width and length, but I immediatley felt that there was a CD inside it when I picked it up....and I assume it was an acceptance. A rejection CD would be pretty hilarious and cruel, right?

However, it might have changed since 2 years ago. I'm not sure whether or not they give out the cd (which contains learnlink) to pre-frosh anymore. Goood Luck! And I certainly don't mind the inquiry...I was going crazzzzy the weeks beforehand. My year, they didn't post them online at all.

ddb do you mind if you could pm me your essay? thank you!

ddb, I too would love to see your essay. In the next couple of weeks, I'll be filling out my transfer applications. And while for some of the schools I'm looking at I have a pretty good idea of what I'll write, I am at a loss for how specifically to address Emory.

Well, that certainly was a boldly written essay. Its nice to see that they're okay with essays that break the mold, but I don't really see myself trying something quite like that. I couldn't pull it off in a satisfactory way, even if I wanted to.

Ah, I'm curious about it now.

DDB, you mind PM'ing it?

hello. I've been viewing the boards for a week now and I also applied Early. DDB, if you can, I would love to read your essay. THanks
