Look into an almost free 'ride' from U. Texas at Austin or U. Florida or Alfred U in NY if you are going to be National Merit finalist. The first 2 seem to attract a lot of free-ride NMFs. Google 'Universities giving National Merit Aid" to find that list of colleges giving almost-free rides.
You might request the 2007-08 U. of Va. catalog of courses and compare what they offer in their dept of biochemistry (actually, it's a blend of mostly chemistry and some biology) to these 2 colleges to see if the education is comparable. Also, very important, investigate undergraduate research opportunities at the universities you are considering.
