can anyone suggest some colleges?

<p>the type of place i'm looking for is simply a college with a decent campus/collegetown, good academics, a student body that's reasonably diverse and not all preppy white kids, and a social scene that isn't dominated by parties/greek life (though it can certainly be a large factor within the scene). In terms of how i fit, somewhere like NYU would be about a match college for me, so yeah. So far the only places i've found that seem to fit in with what i'm looking for are Wesleyan, Brown, and Duke (though the latter two are way beyond my level). So yeah, anybody's $0.02 would be much appreciated.</p>

<p>To narrow it down, what are your projected major(s)? Also, are there any other specific factors that make you like a college? And what are your SAT scores/grades, so i can suggest some matches/safeties/reaches?</p>

<p>If NYU would be a match for you, I bet that Duke and Brown aren’t quite as beyond your reach as you may believe. </p>

<p>Anyway, there are TONS of schools that might fit your criteria (some more specifics about size/area of the country might be helpful for narrowing it down). It’s also kind of hard to tell exactly what you’re looking for socially, since not many people have both Wes and Duke on their list. But I have some suggestions:</p>

<p>If you like Wes and Brown, Vassar comes to mind as another obvious choice (the town isn’t as nice, but the campus is beautiful). Oberlin is another that often is named in the same breath as Wes and Brown. Reed too, if you’re willing to go to the west coast. </p>

<p>Some others that might work as reach or higher match types: Northwestern, WashU, Tufts, Amherst, Colgate (too much Greek?), Carleton (might not be as racially diverse as you want, but it’s definitely not all preppy kids, since there is a strong Midwest presence), Grinnell (not sure about diversity? But again, more Midwest than preppy), Pomona, Claremont McKenna, U of Rochester. Maybe JHU? It’s in a nice area of the city, though I’m not sure if you want colleges actually IN the city.</p>

<p>Some schools that might work as lower matches or safeties: U of Richmond, Occidental, Skidmore (a lot of people I know who liked Brown and Wes liked Skidmore as a safety), Lewis+Clark, Dickinson, American.</p>
