I want to know if Vanderbilt pre med allows students to skip courses such as English if the student did well on AP exam. Or are such courses mandatory to do at the school?

Are you asking if Vanderbilt allows AP credits when you apply ?

@doctorH I already know they give you credits for AP Exams but my question is if the AP Exams allow you to skip certain courses for Pre Med. (For example my bro is going to UTAustin and since he did well on his AP Exam for English he doesn’t need to take it. He is majoring in ECE)

You mean the courses like Math and English for premed? I think that most colleges do it but the important thing is Med school. I have heard that not a lot of med schools in the states allows you to have AP credits. They want you to take college courses IN college. That is why although I am taking AP courses right now, I am not even going to take the AP exams in order to increase my chances on going to med school. You can ask the school by email I guess, and if you are for sure which med school you are going, it is best for you to find if they allow AP credits.

doctorH is correct, with a few exceptions. My D, a current freshman at Vandy, made a list of med schools she was interested in and then did an internet search for their required courses. She contacted the schools to ask specifically about AP credit in lieu of college courses. Almost all of them, including Vanderbilt Med School, said that AP credits would not be accepted. I would suggest you do the same for the specific med schools you are interested in.

Check out this website… https://www.aamc.org/

There is a ton of information there. You can get detailed info on all of the med schools in the US and Canada.

Thanks for the site! Found what I was looking for @marbert2 . Also thank you @doctorH and Belle315

Question: During pre med do you know what other classes students take to get the credit required for graduation. Or is taking the required courses for pre med enough?

Pre-med is not a major. Every at Vanderbilt must pick a degree program and fulfill its requirements. Pre-med students often pick a major relevent to medicine like Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Neuroscience, MHS (Medicine, Health, & Society), etc, but that’s not a requirement for medical school. You can major in whatever you want.

@sadiea5252 All colleges have different requirements for courses you need to take in order to graduate besides the courses You need to take for med school. For example, you have to have PE in your college and a foreign language, but other colleges may not required those classes as pre-requisites. So it really depends on what college you go to.
