well i just returned from my davis tour and i have to say i was quite impressed with their engineering program. they have the most ABET accredited majors of the UCs (10 i think) which leaves me many options to move around in that field. however i would also like to know which and how many ucsd engineering majors are ABET, specifically comp sci, comp eng, ee, meche. thanks

so if i was to major in comp sci i shouldnt go there? or if i do go there and they get accredited while i am attending will my degree be accredited (idk if thats how it works)?

yes, if you are there at the time it gets accredited then you will be to.

do you think ucsd will have a good shot at getting their comp sci program accredited?

cuz a ucd profesor told me it is not so much about the students (cuz u only need 1 graduate in that major to qualify) but about the profesors willingness to go through the tedious process of getting their program accredited

I have to wonder if the ABET accredidation is worth anything for computer science because I've never heard it mentioned before now and some great schools like Cal Tech don't have it. Basically what I'm saying is I don't think it matters whether their program is accredited for comp sci.
All that said I've really liked the comp sci department at Davis it was really cool my lower division assembly language class only had around 22 people in it which is a lot fewer than upper division physics classes I've taken.

bjwbell: hey, yea the davis engineering program looks pretty good to me plus they have so many internships available.....have you been able to get any internships so far?

Sorry I'm not an engineering major, I'm doing math and for math whats import for going to grad school is research.
I do see the jobs fairs and things advertised but since I'm planning on going to grad school I haven't applied for anything.

Another thing that looks great on grad school applications or job applications are team projects that involve your major some of ones I might do if I ever have enough time are the Darpa autonomous vechicle contest http://www.teamaggiespirit.com/ and another really neat one is the micromouse competition http://www.daviswiki.org/Micromouse which is shown on picnic day

It's kinda cool a couple of guys in my phyics class are on the team for the Darpa challenge and they've used the computer lab that I'm the site staff for.

yea the engineering profesor showed us about 6 projects that the engineering department took part in. i woult totally participate in the robot mouse thing and the "future truck" project that they had.

btw, how do u like it at davis? enough stuff to do up their and is everyone pretty friendly and chill?

and another thing, i read on some ucd live journal community that they have a serial rapist on campus, is this true?

I'm having fun, I pretty much study and play some squash and racketball. I don't have time to do much stuff this quarter because I'm taking five classes. I'm not a party person so I can't say anything about clubs and stuff. I would say most people are pretty friendly it's like any large public university you make a group of friends. I was talking to a friend who's here as an echange student from Edinburgh and he was saying that students here are more friendly than the ones in Edinburgh, which I'm guessing is true of most american universities.

I don't about the serial rapist thing first time I've heard of it.
