I checked out the USC website, and it looks like parking will cost me $50/month if I live on campus. Is this right?

There is no priority for anyone for buying parking permits. You just have to make sure you purchase it right when it becomes available online in order to get the lot you want.

Watch the website for the updated times to buy the permits on May 14 for Fall 2009. Make sure you set up an account before that date.

I remember purchasing a permit for my son who had a class right at the time they would be available. His roommate's mom and I both had to help our sons. When the time came, I quickly pushed the buttons and bought the permit. Roommate's mom paused to read the agreement, then pushed the button. She did not get the lot he wanted. Luckily, there was another lot that was just fine.

Great, thanks. Are any lots subject to more vandalism/theft than others? Does a lot of vandalism/theft occur at all?

No vandalism. Just don't bring an expensive car like BMW. My daughter got PBD which is closed to PBX which is the one that was gone very quick.

I wouldn't choose UPC unless its your only option or if you really want to save money.

Yes, anyone who manages to purchase a permit can park.

I think the $50/month is for the off-campus structures. The on-campus ones are more - it says $88/month. My daughter paid $296/semester including taxes (they charge it to your student account) for an on-campus structure (PSA).

cc411 - my D was in class last May, too! I had the horrible responsibility of getting the permit. I did not pause to read the agreement, I clicked... and clicked... and clicked... along with 8 million other people who had the website tied up. Very stressful (I would have been aREALLY*lame*mom if I had failed), but I succeeded after about 40 minutes of constant clicking. I remember several of us were commenting on cc while we attempted to get the permits - which made it MUCH more bearable!

alamemom- I've always read your name as ala-me-mom- guess I'm the real lame mom. Thanks for clarifying that.

I did that online purchase for Son#2 the previous May- 2007. In 2002, S#1 had to physically go wait in line for several hours to get his so at least they don't have to do that anymore!

I like your version better - it makes me sound musical! But as a mother of two teens and one pre-teen, I must embrace and celebrate my innate lame-ness. 'Cause they are always willing to remind me of it.

(sorry bmwguym, for the hijack)

alamemom- you can't be that lame since you know how to bold. I bet all your kids don't know how to do that.

You're right! They can't

either!!! HA!

I think you should start practicing now and set up the Stats Only thread for 2010. The trick is to do a noparse so you can set up the code in a quote so it can be written (to be able to copy and paste it) without being executed. Then you REALLY won't be lame and you can change your name to anerdmom.

Oh, good! Experienced car parking permit moms here now. Can I ask a few questions?

S is likely living at Cardinal Gardens next year. Do you happen to know if he can get/buy parking there? Is it secure? How much $$? Or should he try to get on campus parking instead, since he's right across Jefferson from campus. Any advice will be much appreciated. Thx!

So sorry, madbean, I'm not that experienced. S lives near Shrine and I've texted him to find out about his current parking but I'm not hearing back... he's probably studying ;/.

He set it up so I can't remember if he got his spot through USC or directly from the Shrine. That is too far from Cardinal Gardens anyway.

Hopefully, someone else can give you some good advice.

He should get on campus parking, as the parking at CD is not patrolled or as secure as on campus.

Does anyone know how hard it is to get parking at Century Apartments? I know they have a lot and maybe a garage there.

If someone here can tell me how to "quote" I'll be your bff. I'll have to save bold for another life, I'm afraid :) Maybe if I could quote I'd do fewer emoticons.

Off Topic sort of, but

to quote:

[ quote ] Message [ /quote ]

Remove the spaces.

If you want to get fancy:

[ quote = user you want to quote ] Message [ / quote ]

Ex:

I know nothing about parking at Century, but I can tell you how to quote! Be sure to eliminate spaces inside the brackets when you actually do it - I have to put in spaces or my example will do the quote-thing.

type [ quote ]Put what you want to quote inside like this, and end with[ /quote ]

it should look like this
[quote]

Same thing for bold, just use "B" instead of "quote" [ B ]bold /B
and it will look like this. On my computer it also works to highlight the word you want to bold and do "control B." Italics is the same again: [ I ]italics[ /I ] and it looks like this: italics

Have fun!

Here is the code that can be used on this forum-

Awesome! Thanks everyone!

Congrats, FauxNom. You get an A for quoting.
