hi, i'm a little confused on how the parking permit situation works. i know that the cheapest one is at the parking center which requires a tram to get to.

what is the next cheapest place to park after that? can anyone tell me a good place to get a permit for?

and if anyone has experience w/ the parking center, is it safe? how far away from usc is it really? is it just worth it to get on-campus parking?

Don’t forget the tram doesn’t run on weekends and it stops running after 11 on weekdays so if you go out during the night you’ll have to walk back or call campus cruiser to get back from the parking center.

The cost to park in an on-campus lot is $88 (Gold). When you purchase a parking pass, you have to pick your lot so try to pick the one closest to your dorm. They are all the same price.

The only lot that is a different price is the Parking Center at $50. It is safe but just a little more inconvenient.

when i try to purchase a permit none of the lots are in the drop down menu… the only way i can do anything on the website is go on wait lists for every single lot. they can’t possibly all be full right?

Everyone is on the waitlist until the lottery results are in. Just put in your choices in order of preference. You’ll find out your results I think in July.

The lottery is new this year. Put your request in by July 6. If you put it in now, you can go back and make changes if you decide you want a different lot before July 6. It doesn’t matter when you put your name in- all will have the same chances. You will be notified of your lot by July 11.

After July 11, any available permits will be sold first-come first-served

I just spoke with a supervisor in Transportation and was told they just finalized plans for this lottery last week. He said they will provide more details on the website soon.

do you know if it harms or augments your chances of getting parking if you put 2 or more? I hear that PSX fills up really fast, so I picked that one in case I get picked near the beginning. I picked PSD I think it was second… is that smart or not to pick 2?

I was assuming that you’d want to pick them all in order of preference because it should increase our chances of getting a parking permit in the lottery. Even if we were to get our last choice, it would be better than having nothing at all.

However I don’t know how they administer the lottery and whether choosing more options would some how decrease your chances of getting the parking lot you prefer.
