I wanted to bring a stove into the dorm. (I'm an incoming freshmen) I want to cook some of my own food to save some money, as well as meal points. Is this allowed?

Also, do freshmen have access to a kitchen?

no, you can't bring a stove.

in some places there's a kitchen but i think you need your own pots/pans.

your meal card will be 100% fine, your gonna be paying for it anyway. you won't really need to cook right now.

It's a fire hazard anyways.

what about microwaves? There was a berkeley representatives on our campus a few months ago trying to get people to apply to berkeley and she said you can only have a microwave if it attached to a minifridge combo type of thing. Can you just have a normal microwave and a normal fridge?

you can buy your own microwave minifridge, or you can rent one for $50 a semester that's real nice, that comes with a microwave on top.

the onlythings you can't have are things that glow/burn, like a little grill or hot plate.

so you can have a refridgerator?

fridges are fine.

I got one in my room and my neighbors have microwaves and fridges as well.

Not the combo type, but each as its own thing. So... it's fine.

From experience in the units, there's a kitchen on the ground floor where you can cook, but you can't cook in your own room because of fire hazards. As mentioned above, bring your own cooking wares.

Hardly anyone cooks so it's open most of the time except for the occasional baking goods.

There is usually a tiny tiny kitchen on the first floor when you enter the Units, but the equipment is shoddy and acceptable at best. The counters are sticky, microwave is dirty, and the stove is grimy. It's still usable though, but it's a fat hassle to keep walking downstairs to go cook on the first floor. It's best if you don't cook at all.

....stoves?? i don't know if there's enough room for that
plus, your roommate might be a little irritated with you

the units have kitchens on the 1st floor of each building. they are usually clean and the ones i've seen (putnam, freeborn, slottman) are not that small. you can cook and bake if you choose. you can check out cooking utensils, basic stuff. not a recommended thing for a regular basis.

The burning mircowave popcorn has set off more than one smoke alarm this year... what a pain....
