Microwave?

Are we allowed to have a microwave in our room at all?
The Micro 101/2 Energy Star on the housing "What to bring" seems to only offer a refrigerator.

And can we still sneak a fridge of our own in?
Or is it just cheaper to rent one of theirs?

Micro 101 is a ripoff. You can buy a fridge for the price they offer to rent for one school year. Yes, you can bring your own fridge and your own microwave.

But on the housing website it says not to bring microwave or refrigerator.
Do they really care?

During inspections, they're not allowed to touch anything. Just cover up any contraband items with a towel or a cloth and they can't penalize you for it.

How do you know when they're going to inspect rooms? Do they tell you ahead of time?

does it really say not to bring microwave/fridge? my roommate and i were planning on bringing or own to save money...

yes.......... YOU CAN

UC Berkeley Fall 2008 - Residence Hall Move In

What NOT to Bring:

* Electric cooking implements - anything with coils
* Extra furniture and bulky things (at least until you've settled in and had a chance to determine what you really need.)
* Refrigerator or microwave (see link to our refrigerator program below)

That where it says you can't.....but I don't know.

Hah! I knew a lot of people with fridges and microwaves. No one cares that you have these items in your room. Most RAs don't care too.

dude, no one cares. bring your own microwave and fridge if ya want, you're not gonna get in trouble.

Are we allowed to bring rice cookers and water boiler?
would 2 tv's in a double be ok?

I had a water boiler...technically they aren't allowed but I never got in trouble or anything. I'm not sure about rice cooker, but again, it's not like there are campus officers routinely checking rooms for illegal stuff.

And 2 tv's in one room? Why? You only have one cable line...you could split it, but there is no need to have 2, unless you both watch television ridiculously too often.

one for tv one for gaming of course.

I like tea.

....why not just use the same TV for both watching TV and gaming? You won't have room for two TVs.

Jesus, people have worse stuff in their room than a microwave (like alcohol and weed). Don't worry about it, you can bring a non-Micro 101 microwave or fridge. These are rather trivial things to worry about in the grand scheme of things.

I've never had an inspection done of my room nor even heard of anybody having an inspection done of their room.

Having two tv's in a double isn't the most intelligent way to save space. But why can't you just connect video games to the same tv? If you are that much of a tv+game junky...I hope you get out often. I'm not suggesting that this will happen to you, but I've stayed in dorms for 3 semesters, and there are always these people who basically only played video games. They never came out to socialize, or even just meet people on their floor, they just constantly played. You don't want to be like that in college, and maybe a good way to force yourself out is to just bring one tv...or none at all.

I think I just found my niche. <3

anyone get caught with electric water kettle or electric hot plate?
