hey all. just wondering, does anyone know if we are allowed to bring Mini-Refrigerators and Toaster Ovens (or are they not allowed because they're fire hazards?). Or George Foreman grills? i looked on the res hall site but even under the FAQ's they didn't mention anything about appliances you could/couldn't bring. thanks!

I just bought an itty-bitty fridge.

lol, yeah didn't realize that "Frig" referred to "Fridge" until after i posted, sorry about that. but does anyone know if we can bring toaster ovens, or at least george foreman grills? :)

I agree, a most inventive spelling ;)

I would think that they would be considered even more dangerous than microwaves...but who knows?

Toaster ovens and Georget Foreman Grills are not allowed in the resident halls.

Refrigerators are allowed and microwaves are kinda not allowed, but it's okay.

would it be wise to wait and shop for fridge and micros once we're actually at berkeley?

Depends. If you live close to Berkeley (1 to 1.5 hours) then you should go ahead and buy it now and bring it with you to Cal (after all, you're so close). If you live far away (have to take a plane, drive for more than 2 hours, etc.) then wait until you get to Cal, settle in for a few days, then shop online and have them deliver to Cal.

i won a microwave in a raffle at my hs grad nite... but i live in southern california and i'll be flying up. do u think i should still bring it or have my parents ship it to me after i acquainted?

Hmm, either way it's at least a minor hastle. I would say just have the parents send it to you in a few weeks because you won't really need it and it's relatively large, and thus inconvenient to bring with you. I plan on getting the necessary (haha hardly) appliances when i'm in berkeley.

Wait till you find out what your room mates are bringing
you're not going to need 3 (or 2) mini fridges
