Can getting a high score on the Math II subject test compensate for a low SAT math score?

I have seen this question asked before, but I have never came across an answer. Does anybody have any insight?

High and low are relative, of course. I think I can help though. My SAT math score was pretty low, by CC standards. I got a 700, which was my lowest of all three parts (800 CR, 730W, 700M, 10E), and pretty disappointing since I consider math one of my stronger subjects. I took the Math II and received an 800. I’m majoring in mechanical engineering, and I got into my top school, so I think it should be fine. The SAT is only one component of your application, but YMMV depending on your application/scores as a whole.
