I chose to accept a spot on Harvard's wait list, but I have also accepted a spot on Princeton's wait list. I'm currently considering accepting a spot on Dartmouth's wait list as well, because I might as well, but I constantly hear rumors that Ivy's check if you applied to other Ivy's and this can hurt your chances, and there is no way I'd go to Dartmouth over Harvard and don't want to hurt my chances of getting in. Does this also apply to the wait lists? Does anyone know?

Years ago, the ivies were slapped with an anti-trust lawsuit for sharing information about applicants. That practice is currently illegal, so Harvard (nor any other college) knows where else you’ve been waitlisted or where else you have accepted a spot on the waitlist.

It was not just Ivys - turned out it was the Ivys, Williams, Amherst, Swarthmore too. The big hitters, like 12 of them, were all in on it. They all had to stop as @gibby stated.
