Can I afford to go to Temple?

Hi, so I was accepted at Temple last week at a portfolio review. It’s my top choice but I’m an out of state applicant with an EFC of 0. Temple’s annual rates would be ~ $44,000!! I’ve applied to a lot of scholarship programs so far, however, I might receive a merit scholarship because I have an above average GPA (3.8) and sat (1260) for their standards. I’m seeking a dual degree through Tyler and Fox for Graphic Design and Entrepreneurship. I have a semester’s worth of college credits so I might be able to save around $17,000 for the semester.

Is Temple even a plausible option for me?

Did you run the NPC for Temple?

The NPC for Temple has had an error for over a year so that won’t help. From other posts, you will not get that much merit for those stats. The merit has gotten a lot more competitive. You may get some need based aid including a Pell, but as an OOS student Temple will not even come close to meeting your need, unfortunately. Maybe you can get a departmental scholarship from Tyler as well.

Thanks for your reply! I ran the NPC but it didn’t seem to give me a correct adjusted estimate, it said it would be around $50000 per year including grants and aid. I’ll look into more departmental scholarships in the meantime.

Let’s just cut to the chase…

As an OOS with a 0 EFC, temple is not a financially feasible option for your family. Hopefully you have some affordable options

And your stats will not get you viable merit scholarships.

Temple will not be affordable.
Where else have you applied?
Muhlenberg and Beloit give good financial aid and still accept applications but hurry you have 2 days.

Will Not Be affordable…not even close…

Where else did you apply?

I’ve also applied to UMD College Park, Mica, University of Delaware, SCAD, BU, and Northeastern

What’s instate for you?
Only northeastern meets need and it’s a very high reach for your stats (they meet need but are need aware).
Please apply to a few more schools, including Muhlenberg and a few more instate publics.

What is your home state? You have a lot of unaffordable schools on your list.
