Can I apply ED to Brown and EA to other schools?

From Brown’s Early Decision FAQ, I assumed I would be able to apply Early Decision to Brown and Early Action to some other schools, but I recently ran across a thread that states otherwise:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/517440-can-you-apply-ed-and-ea.html

Have the rules changed, or can I still not apply EA anywhere else if I am applying ED to Brown?

Brown states clearly that if you apply ED you cannot apply to any SCEA schools. But I think Chicago is regular EA, so that is fine. Not sure who else is open like Chicago. Some EA schools may not allow you to ED another school if you apply to them EA… Have to check each school’s policy. Most publics `with rolling or regular EA decisions are fine.

From the [Brown website:](<a href=“Undergraduate Admission | Brown University”>Undergraduate Admission | Brown University)

So you can apply to any school the offer non-restrictive early action. Thus, applying to MIT is fine; applying to Harvard is not.

That said, some colleges (BC and Georgetown come to mind) do not allow you to apply EA if you are applying ED elsewhere. Best to check with the universities in question.

Of course, if you are lucky enough to be accepted to Brown ED, you would need to withdraw all outstanding applications.
