Can I apply for a different subject after my first choice denied me due to enrollment capacity?

Hello Everyone!

I just found out that the CS programme at U of T refused admission to me because all spaces were already filled up. Would it be possible for me to apply for another programme at this time, if so, how?

If anyone has any prior experience with this, feedback would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

Not at U of T, not this year. U of T doesn’t offer alternate admissions in the Faculty of Arts and Science.

What other schools have you applied to/ been admitted to?

@bouders Thank you for your response.

That’s quite unfortunate. I have 5 other reasonable choices in the US and I am also waiting on McGill. But I really wanted to consider U of T. Oh well.

@as1999610 Don’t feel too bad. I no longer recommend applying to CS at U of T. It’s not even a direct admit. Even if you were admitted into the CS program, you would have to attain a high percentage in your first year courses in order to be admitted to the major or specialist or minor. I estimate somewhere between 10-25% of students admitted to CS will actually be able to get into a CS degree. Good luck with your other choices!

@bouders Oh wow. I was not aware of that at all. Those aren’t great odds. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise after all.

Same for me. says refused admission - program has reached enrolment capacity. i was pretty heartbroken… but I guess I’ll go to either McGill or UBC.

@EverLee Which program did you apply to? On another note, McGill is a wonderful university - I seriously recommend choosing there.

@viodawn Faculty of Arts & Sci - Computer science. All unis in Canada sound awesome, I’ll have to work hard on making a decision.
