I'm a rising HS senior, right now I'm between getting a BSN (School of Nursing) or a BA in a language (Arts & Sciences)...is it possible to apply to both schools at once? Or do I have to put "undecided"? (which I kind of don't want to do...)

P.S. I'm going to the Ready, Set, Pitt, this friday....when I apply (if I do), do I have to pay the $45 then?

Please Help!! Thanks :)

I don’t think you can apply to two schools, you have to clearly pick one on your application.

I believe that A&S is slightly easier to get into than Nursing, so if you’re unsure, I would apply for A&S that way you have a better chance of getting in. Once at Pitt, you can always ask to change majors/departments.

If you apply at Ready Set Pitt, they waive your application fee.

^I would say the opposite. Because it’s easier to get into A&S, it’s also a lot easier to transfer once you get there if you’re already in nursing. Switching from A&S to nursing would be a lot harder, especially since they keep the number in the nursing department pretty tight, so there would have to be an open spot. I do think though that if you applied for nursing and didn’t get in, Pitt might offer you a spot in A&S (they do this for engineering).

My only hesitation with applying to A&S originally is that nursing has all the courses planned out, and if I started in A&S and transferred, I would have to make up the classes over the summer (when I hope to work/volunteer/take language classes).

If I did start in nursing and transfer to A&S, would my credits transfer too, do you think (for Gen Ed or whatever)?

Nursing is limited to 100 seats per year. I really don’t think that many people can transfer into nursing since there simply are not enough seats to accept transfers. You can ALWAYS transfer out of nursing, but you can’t always transfer into nursing.

By the way, nursing seats are usually gone by October.

Okay, so say I apply to the School of Nursing.

I have hospital volunteer experience (nursing unit included), and have gotten mid to high A’s in every science I’ve taken (Bio, Chem, Physics, and Anatomy&Physiology). At my school, only Physics is offered on an Honors track (I took the next highest track…highest track for bio and chem, too, besides AP), and I will not have had any AP sciences when I graduate (partially because of scheduling conflicts, partially because AP Bio here is only about plants for some reason, does not even touch on humans?? [talked to former students]).

I am really, really interested in nursing and had a sort of personal conflict the last year or so about going into medicine (family issues, hard to explain here), which is the reason for the lack of AP sciences, but I know now it’s a field I would really like to enter. (I am also considering taking sciences as a summer student at another college next yr)

Is this going to affect my chances at getting into the School of Nursing?? They only admit like 121 :(

Edit: I looked at the academic reqs for the School of Nursing, and it doesn’t mention APs…and I also have all of the reqs, as well as two of the recommended courses.

Awesome! But since it is based on rolling admissions apply NOW!

I’m applying Saturday when I go to Ready, Set, Pitt… still a bit nervous about it though :)

Okay, so I’ve seen a lot of posts from nursing school hopefuls (pitt especially) who have taken at least AP Bio or AP Chem…By the time I graduate I will have taken neither (explanation in an above post). Do you think if I explain why I was didn’t/couldn’t take an AP science in HS in my personal statement (same as the optional essay?) that I will be okay? (I got A’s - A+'s in four years of science already…)
thanks :)
