Can I change my decision after paying the nonrefundable enrollment fee?

Guys I’m now facing a dilemma. I’ve already accepted the offer of one college and paid the enrollment fee, but after a few days I think that one doesn’t really suit me and I should choose another college. I’m concerning about what would happen if I accept the offer of the second college? Will I be rejected by both of them? What can I do to reduce the probability of negative consequences? Neither of them are ED.

You are really asking two questions.

  1. Can I change my mind about where I attend college?
  2. Can I get my money back?

The schools are the only ones who can give you definitive answers but the answers are likely yes to #1 and no to #2.

My son faced the same situation 6 years ago. He deposited at our state flagship in order to get better housing. It was his first choice but after a couple more visits he decided it was too big and fell in love with a small LAC. It was mid April and he emailed the state school letting them know he decided to attend another college. A day later he sent his deposit and acceptance to the LAC. He lost his deposit to the state school, but made an excellent decision. He is doing well in a great job and loved his college experience.
The key is not to double deposit. Notify the first school that you wish to withdraw your admission and then accept and deposit to your ultimate choice.
In short @Sportsman88 nailed it. Yes to #1 and no to #2. Good luck with your decision!
