Happy New Year! I am new to this forum but have found it super helpful. DS is applying for BS this year. However, we have a dilemma with the personal recommendations. We used my son’s music teacher, who has very close connection with him over many years, as his special interest recommender. On the other hand, the personal recommender we used was my son’s previous school teacher, who has moved away and has not been able to start the process as the deadline is nearby. In this case, should we change our personal recommendation to his music teacher? If so, do we need to contact the schools for this change, and withdraw the special interest recommendation? Thank you so much for your advice.
You can change the info at anytime on Gateway. I had sent a transcript request to my son’s school through the main email but when talking to people at the school, I was asked to send the request to a specific person who actually does the sending. I just went in and changed the info. It is the same with the recommendations (which you can also resend so the email is at the top of their emails vs months back in their inbox).
Thank you so much for replying. However, our music teacher has submitted his RC and we couldn’t change any more. I can still change the PR since it hasn’t started yet, but should I contact the schools to withdraw the submitted RC first so we don’t have the same teacher for both personal and special interest?
Oh the same teacher? The music teacher was just an extra teacher recommendation? You could definitely call and talk with the AO about the situation. I am sure it isn’t the first time something like this has happened. But if you need another special interest recommendation, what are you going to do this late in the game?
I think the special interest recommendation is optional for most schools, so it could be fine. I will check again. Thank you so much!
As long as it is optional, I would think you can call and ask them about changing it over. I can’t see why it would be a problem. I would call tomorrow, though most schools may not be open because of the holiday. Just call until you get an answer from them in case you do need to track down another recommendation pronto. Good luck but I think you’ll be fine.
Sure, will do. Thank you for your help!
