I live fairly close to Columbus, and commuting would save my family a lot of money. But I was accepted into a Scholars program & I really want to do that. Am I allowed to commute and do scholars? If so, should I?

The scholars website says that scholars housing is required, although you could contact an advisor to double check.

While living in the dorms is far more expensive than living at home and commuting, I suggest you live in the dorms your first year, and then commute for the next three years. The social aspect of living in a dorm is great for making new friends and learning to be more self-sufficient, and being in scholars will give you extra benefits like priority scheduling. You’ll meet new people you might not otherwise meet, you’ll go on fun late-night escapades, and you’ll have more of an opportunity to do stuff your parents might frown upon, whether that be partying or staying up until 4 in the morning discussing philosophy with friends.

If you can’t afford it, then I suggest you join a lot of clubs to make up for the lack of dorm social opportunities.

I was leaning toward living in a dorm. Money is an issue, but not quite that big of an issue–I could make it work fine. Thank you!
