If you’re applying BME, you may not make it.

You SAT is ok, but the only people I know who made it in with those scores were in-state OR URM. Indians at JHU are plentiful–most of them are BME like me. And they definitely had MUCH better scores/everything than me, lol.

You do seem to have a good amount of EC’s and some of them seem pretty good–Volunteering, Teach India, Olympiad, etc. I think you should focus on your Essays and try to highlight some of these good points. Also it would help if you got an interview and further highlighted to the Alumni your good points.

Your grades are looked at more within the context of your class rank [how you did relative to your peers]. The 2 on CS won’t help, but wont sting too bad, esp. with 4/5 on some of your other exams.

I think for non-BME you have a good shot [def. worth applying], for BME, you will need to convince them that you REALLY want to come to JHU–though essays, interview, etc.

Good Luck, and if you have any questions feel free to ask! :)

why does instate matter at a private university?

hey what exactly is “BME”???

BioMedical Engineering

In my experince it just so happens that a lot fo the people that were accepted my year that were “average” candidates [1900ish SAT, 3.7ish GPA, etc] were all from MD. Perhaps Hopkins wants to keep talent from MD in MD, or given that UMD CP is a great Engineering School [Top 20 for Grad] and is priced very reasonably for a state school, they want to attract MD residents away from that school. idk! All I know is for some reason people from MD had an easier time getting in than a few friends of mine from VA or NY.

Don’t forget the “S” … it’s Johns Hopkins University.

^yeah i cringed when i read the title…
