Hello, I just finished my Harvard REA application. I didn’t have much help as people from my state don’t normally apply to ivies. My dilema is that when I submitted my application, it was only after the fact did I know that you were only allowed to apply to one PRIVATE college under REA. Before applying to Harvard I applied to a local private college under early action, most have never heard of it. Will Harvard actually care about this prior application, as I assume the main point of restricting early action is to make sure they don’t apply to their rival school, wofford college most definitely not one. Will this lead to a cancellation in my application? And is there any way to fix this?
Your solutions are straightforward. Contact Harvard and shift the application from REA to RD or withdraw your application to Wofford. You can always re-submit the Wofford one after you hear from Harvard in mid December.
If Harvard didn’t care they wouldn’t have Single Choice Early Action (SCEA). If Harvard finds out, you will be denied before they even read your application. Speak with your guidance counselor, as I think the Common Application software does not allow a GC to upload transcripts to an SCEA school and a private EA college. Your GC will have to pick one of them, so speak with your GC – that’s what they are there for!
Thanks @gibby and @T26E4 . The reason I applied to Wofford on EA was to be able to participate in a scholarship program. I still want to compete in this scholarship so I will move Harvard to RD. Even though EA appears to have better acceptance rates I guess that is just a sacrifice I will have to make.
I would contact someone at Wofford and talk to them before moving your application from EA to Regular at Harvard. Explain your situation and ask for advice.
Finally got in contact with the file room, they moved my application to RD.
