Hello, I was recently accepted into Yale as a recruited athlete and am interested in pursuing engineering there. I recognize that Yale doesn’t have the “best” engineering departments by any means, but will I still be able to get a good engineering job with the ABET degree they offer there? Thanks
Congratulations!
As long as you have a decent GPA, and can work, your job options will be strong.
Three close friends were engineering majors and went on to successful engineering related careers. They were all heavily recruited out of college by well known tech companies. I am sure you can get current placement data from the career services office.
I’m sure you can if you study and learn the material. Why not??
Are Yale engineering majors unemployable? What a strange thread. But congratulations!
No they aren’t, but they won’t have the same opportunities at the job fairs as the “stronger” engineering programs.
My advice to the OP is that your opportunities will flow from your GPA, the strength of coursework you take, your projects and work resume, and your network, no matter where you go.
Yale may not be known as an engineering powerhouse, but if you maximize the above, and are willing to look beyond the job fair recruiters, you’ll have good opportunities. Engineering is very egalitarian. You’ll be better at Yale doing what I suggest above than you will be at MIT as an uninvolved C student.
If you get involved in your campus related major activities, do well in school and make a name for yourself, you should be fine. What type of engineering are you going into?
Congrats on the acceptance.
