are you IS or OOS

I am out of state

i think you have a decent chance. your SAT and ECs seem good enough, but your GPA might be a bit on the low end.

I had the exact same SAT score and GPA and very similar courseload and ECs and am currently in the College of Engineering. Michigan should be a match unless admissions gets a lot more difficult by the time you’re a senior, which could possibly happen looking at how much median scores have gone up and acceptance rates have gone down in the past few years. I’d say at least 60% chance you’re in, even more if you improve your stats.

Still early, as you are a rising Jr., but you are on track. That is a good SAT for your age. I would guess you are looking to take it again this fall/winter and it should rise again. Keep up the good work.

My only question is your 1st semester Jr. schedule. Why are you already going to a college for classes? Out of good APs?

@wayneandgarth… might be part of high school.

If you get some As in those college classes you’re probably good. The rigor of the schedule is definitely there.

You have a very good chance, but the competition is getting tougher each year, with the number of applications soaring. This year the overall admit rate was 33% (down from 37% last year, 40% two years ago, and 50% three years ago), and probably considerably lower than that for OOS students. Next year will probably be even lower, and in two years when you’re applying, yet again lower. For that reason, you should be a little cautious when people tell you what their stats were when they were admitted, because you’ll likely be in a different and much larger and more competitive applicant pool.

Average unweighted GPA for this year’s freshman class is 3.85, so you’re a little light right now but with plenty of time to get there (and a rising GPA works in your favor). SAT M score is obviously fine; SAT CR is a little light, currently third quartile for Michigan. I’d work on trying to get that score up a little. Overall you’re in pretty good shape, and a strong junior year and some work on that CR score could leave you in excellent shape.

Good luck!

Blows me away how times have changed. ChoatieKid attends a rigorous NE prep school, has fine stats, and we still wouldn’t consider U-M anything but a reach. OTOH, I dropped out of beauty school just to fill a vacated dorm space in my best friend’s double in East Quad second semester (Jan '77). I ended up staying to graduate, but she completed all the administrative admissions paperwork for me. I just filled in the “particulars” on the application and, I think, one very short essay and never considered that I wouldn’t be admitted.

I think you’ll be fine - keep your GPA up and get a 2200+ and you’re in. Honestly haven’t even heard of a sophomore taking 5 AP classes. Pretty impressive scores too.
