Can i get in?

I have a 2.7 gpa, 25 ACT score, a very rigorous courseload, I am very involved because I am in Track, Club Soccer, School Soccer, Environmental Club, DECA, have a job and have 30 volunteer hours. Do I have a decent chance?

@Student1235 - The Iowa Public Universities use a formula for admissions. You can enter your stats here: https://www.admissions.iastate.edu/freshman/requirements.php Extracurriculars aren’t counted.

If your score is 245 or greater, you are in and you will know in a week or so after applying online. Applications open in July and my son’s admission letter was dated July 21. He was thrilled to have an acceptance from a good school in his pocket that early. It really took the pressure off. He was ultimately accepted to five more universities and finally chose ISU on 4/27. We are Ames bound!

@Beaudreau RAI is for the in-state applicants only, isn’t it?

@WhenOthers - I think it’s used for everyone, but I’m not positive. We are out of state and my son was admitted just a few days after he applied. He completed orientation two weeks ago and starts at Iowa State next month. He is really excited!

He will be living in Starbucks South (third floor of Martin Hall), an Honors floor. He and his suite-mates are all engineering majors. My son is from Arizona, and one suite-mate is from Iowa, one from Minnesota, and one from Illinois. My son turned down Arizona, Arizona State, Michigan State, and Alabama.

RAI is used for all students

Yes, RAI is used for everyone. Also, the online application is quick and you get a 48 hours turn around on the decision (mainly because of the RAI formula). So, if you want to know if you will get in…just apply and find out in 2 days! My son (from Wisconsin) applied last August, got a quick acceptance and that is where he is now attending. Has been there 2 weeks and so far he loves it!
