Intended Major: Nursing
Colleges Applied: SDSU, CSUF. CSUSM, UCI, UCLA, Mount Saint Mary’s University Los Angeles
Weighted GPA: 3.85
Unweighted: 3.49
SAT score: 990
I’ve already been told that I have a low chance into getting into these universities since my SAT isn’t competitive. I’m in the top 10% of my class, been part of lots of clubs, and I’ve completed two medical internships at local hospitals. At this point, I doubt that I will get into these universities. Does anyone have advice?
I go to MSMU aka Mount saint marry’s university LA. When i applied I had low SAT score but a high GPA.Honestly i feel like your chances of getting here are high. I was honestly just like you, in the top 10% of my class, did a lot of extracurricular things and I got in. Feel free to dm me if you have any question about the mount
Yes. Your SAT scores aren’t very competitive. I think if you’re trying to get into schools like UCI or even UCLA, your best chance would be to transfer after freshman year of college.
How does transferring work? None of my counselors haven’t helped explaining.
Your best chances would be Cal State San Marcos and Mount St Mary’s with your current SAT but still a slight Reach.
SDSU/UCI and UCLA are direct admits and extremely competitive with a 5% acceptance rate or less so definitely Reaches.
CSUF has a direct admit program however, your SAT makes it impossible since you do not meet the minimum requirements but you may get an acceptance into the University. If accepted in CSUF, you can then take the Nursing pre-req’s and apply to their Nursing school at the end of Sophomore year.
See information below:
Applicants must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate CSUF student at the time of application.
Students within any major are allowed to apply and no majors are given preference.
All prerequisite courses must be completed with a minimum overall GPA of 3.25.
You must earn a “B-” or higher in each science prerequisite course. You must earn a “C” or higher in each non-science prerequisite course.
Courses do not expire.
The online application for the Traditional BSN (CSUF Student Pathway) program will be available from February 1 - February 28.
For CSU San Marcos if admitted to Pre-Nursing/Health Sciences, you would also follow the same path as CSU Fullerton and pre-req courses than apply to their Nursing program.
Regarding transferring into a Nursing program:
You can take your Nursing school Pre-req’s at a Community college, a Cal State or a Private University and then apply for transfer into the any of the Nursing schools. You would need to look up each school’s specific requirements for transfer.
