Can I get in?

I went to a college fair to talk to Stony Brook. it didnt go well at all. I have a 1400 on SAT. 740 M and 660 on Eng. My GPA is not that good according to the admissions rep. I have a 3.5 GPA, will have 6-7 APs, played CYO basketball. I took precalc and am taking calc in my senior year. He was not happy with my GPA and said I would not get in. So im stressed… anyone have advice… is there anything I can do in the next 6 months to help me get in? MAybe I should apply undecided… what gpas have been getting accepted?

try anyways

I got a scholarship with a 3.5/3.6 2150 SAT when I applied 3 years ago. It can’t be that much more competitive now. idk though.

Ok thanks. What major did you apply for.

Is that 3.5 weighted or unweighted?
What major like you be applying for?

It’s a 3.5weighted. Unweighted is 3.4. My school has 2 honors classes. So weighting is limited to the 4 ap classes I have so far. But I’m taking calc. I wanted to get into the a mixed field of business and computer engineering. But I was advised since engineering is so competitive I would have a better chance to apply undecided

Good wrt calc.
What about physics?

3.4 is too low for Stony Brook. You can apply as a reach but you need to make a list from the ground up.

Fill out request information for Union, Clarkson, RIT, NYIT, SUNY Buffalo, Suny’s with your major.

My guidance counselor says it should be a target School if I apply non engineering since we are a highly regarded high school. They are not in touch with reality. I told her what the admissions people said at the fair and she didn’t buy it. I’m also applying to Rutgers.

Apply.

But also apply to other SUNYs. Plenty have strong Business programs.

But please don’t equate “disagrees with me” with “not in touch with reality.”

@bjkmom thanks.

I’m late but I applied for pure math. I’m pretty sure I got in only cause my SAT was high enough. Don’t come here for business. The program is a joke, is super easy, and isn’t even certified.

Great news. Sat scores came in 1470. Hope that helps with Stony Brook and U conn

I think you have a pretty good chance of getting in! I’ve seen people with lower stats that got accepted so you should be fine.
