hey now. i know what neverlose99 said was offensive but you dont have to get all worked up about it.
i agree you should never go into a uc santa cruz forum and bash the school.
but i think neverlose99 is just upset that he/she didnt get into the school he/she thought he/she deserved to get into like alot of people.
but i agree neverlose99 was acting like a real condescending jerk.
lets just all settle down.

Everyone on this thread is completely out of their mind. Nomosacto, the fact that you go to UCSC does not help the standing of this university, in fact, it brings it down. You should grow up and stop becoming an internet hero. I showed this thread to my son and he suggested that you get out of your little bubble. I dont know why you should hand back clfford the big red dog to billnye because it is quite clear that you cannot handle information in the "heat of battle" that quote was embarrassing. I suggest that you never apply for an internship position at HP as I am in the selection committee. I am sorry for my language but you make me wish my son didnt go there. People like you embarass me.

Hp,

I'm sorry that you feel the way you do about my views, but please bear in mind that you will find people like mr who voice their opinion no matter what college your son decides to attend. If you are embarrased that your son goes here strictly because of how one of the students feels about a certain subject, you are going against the standards of diversity and open mindedness that American Universities pride themselves in. I ask that you don't stereotype a schools average student based on my posts. The person sitting to the right of my in class could hate my posts and the person to the left could love them. That's the beauty of this forum; we are able to voice opinions and debate thoughts where we normally wouldn't be able to do so. But what you've said has opened my eyes as well, and yes I'll think a little more before posting.

And I do not plan on applying for an internship at hp San Jose- that is not my desired career path. What made you think that out of all things i'd want to apply there? I hope it wasn't an attempt to express your power in hopes that out of all jobs and locations I might want hp San Jose. My mom is a head nurse at kaiser. I don't know anything about your son but I hope he doesn't apply there. Did that do any good?

I'm finished posting on this thread because it's obvious that we could all go on forever regarding this subject. I see and respect your views and (hopefully) you see where I'm coming from as well.

Wow... Anyone who tried (and failed) to nail NoMo needs to stop and think... You didn't read the thread, just jumped to a conclusion. (always remember to read the entire citation). NoMo corrected it right away. Every one makes a mistake once in a while. Neverlose gave a completely over the top, insulting response. Not helpful or accurate.

But HP, you take the cake. You are supposedly an adult. I can't even imagine the bubble you are living in. A 3.6 is definitely in the ball park. And all it takes is a retake on the ACT, some hard work, a good essay, and admission is certainly in reach. A stretch... yes. But a "you fail at life" situation.... no one should ever say that to another person. I hope you don't wrap up the Internships at HP with feedback like that.

Admissions is not a strict science, and if you look at the distribution of grade points you'll see students admitted with MUCH lower grade points than 3.6. And you'll see kids with 4.3 GPAs. Hmmm... why didn't they go to UCI? UCD? UCLA? They wanted to go to UCSC! It is a great school. Few (if any) students will stretch the limits of what a quality school like UCSC can offer.

A reputation only carries so much weight. It is performance, desire, and execution that makes the most difference in hiring. The interview, the grades, and yes, sometimes the reputation. But some of the most talented people I work with didn't go to an A school, or even a B school... but they have been hugely successful.

NoMo... you have passion, and love your school... why wouldn't you, who would go some where they hated.. Good luck! Any if you see my daughter, Bananaslug, on campus next year, make sure she's wearing her Frosh Beenie. :-) Folks... that was a joke....

Hah, hah father, very funny. I like hats, so I probably will.
Anyway, this year, 12.9% of the applicants who had a GPA below 3.0 (which is the minimum for the in state UC system) got in.

Honestly, its not impossible for Waterpolo to get in. So, please, next time you are about to click the Post Reply, think about if you're going to make an ass out of yourself. Its really tragic to see someone get shot down because people are bitter or ignorant.
I hope this thread doesnt scare people off because of the cruel things said.

I had around that same GPA, way less community service hours, ect. I got in. My school has this site with a scattergram of GPA's/SAT scores of the seniors this year & someone as low as a 3.1gpa/1500 (out of 2400) SAT or a 3.3/1450 (out of 2400) SAT got in. Most that were rejected had below a 3.0 and everyone with a 3.5 or above all were accepted.

I think you have a chance. Really, I think anyone has a chance. Just work hard on your essays and do your best in school.
