Can I get into Berkeley?

regarding post 14, do CC grades matter very much in the future? Not for admission, I'm talking about after you get into/enroll in a 4-year college.

UC essays ought to be written conservatively (that's not to say in a monotonous fashion.) This is a huge chain of universities, not a small 'quirky' liberal arts college. But that's nothing more than my personal opinion.

Go Bears: CC Grades don't count for your UC GPA. They do count for your LSDAS GPA and your AMCAS GPA, if you're counting on going into law or medical school, respectively.

wait what? CC grades do count for UC gpa. They were factored into the gpa when my counselor told me my UC gpa.

wait nevermind. I thought you meant UC gpa as in high school gpa calculated by the UC system. You meant UC gpa as in gpa in Berkeley or other UCs right?

Oh and I found out that high school class rank doesn't matter for Berkeley.

So if one is not going to Law/Medical school, CC grades will not be considered? What about regular grad school?

yes, you can get in.

/end thread/

GPAx213, yeah, I meant UCGPA as in your GPA as an enrolled student at the University of California. CC grades certainly count for the UCGPA that is calculated for admissions purposes, which is why I keep telling you it is important to maintain excellence in CC courses.

Go Bears - the admissions process for law and medical school is very centralized, and there is a very clear formula for how the admissions boards calculate your GPA. As far as I know, there is no such centralization for graduate schools. I would guess (and the emphasis is on guess) is that they don't really care about CC courses unless you were a transfer student.

Your CC grades will also be factored into the UC GPA for admissions as an undergraduate. (UCD Admissions over on the Davis forum addressed this question constantly last year) I think taking college courses in high school is what got my son accepted at some top schools, including Cal. He had quite a few B's in HS, but got straight A's in the college classes he took between end of sophomore and beginning of senior year. From what I can tell, no student can afford to write a safe essay for Cal, no matter how good their stats are. I saw many kids with higher gpa's and more rigorous course loads than my son get turned down this year. URM's, first generation, IB candidates, etc.... rejected. Had to be the essays. And I would also like to dispel the notion that the UC's value the gpa too much more than other factors. If this was true, my kid would have been turned down. They say they use holistic review and now I believe them.

GPAx213...what in the world is wrong with you?! You know you are going to get in with all those goddamn activities and scores (if all of them are true) so stop bloody boasting about yourself!!!!
