Can I get into Clemson University?

I have a good SAT score but my GPA is really really sad.

I know Clemson doesn't superscore, but my best sitting is a 2070 (Writing: 710, Math: 620, CR: 740)

My GPA is a 3.3 Unweighted, 3.8 weighted, I've taken 4 AP's so far (ending my junior year) and I'm taking three next year, I've received mostly A's in all of those, B's in AP US history. Not my thing. Next year I have a three period internship with a police officer in the local police department.

EC: I've been in the International Thespian Society for all three years thus far and next year will be a National Thespian. That being said, I've been involved in theatre since the beginning of high school and have held a leadership position this year and was recently elected to Social Chair/Public Liaison for next year. I've also been on the debate team for two years (captain of my team), and I've directed a children's show which involved leading my peers. I helped start a charity chapter this year called Global Connection and we've raised over five thousand dollars for education in Uganda just since January. I've held a job in the food service industry since the summer of freshman year and have volunteered for my church as a youth deacon for three years running, as well as being Assistant Director of my church's vacation bible school for two. I've volunteered in presidential elections (not the campaign, the actual election) and will be an election judge this November. I've been babysitting since I was 13, so I started a bit of a micro charity that's not licensed or anything, but I babysit families in need for free.

Thank you! PLEASE BE BRUTAL.

God I wish Clemson had an early decision program.

Oh and I live Out-Of-State so I know that makes a difference. I live in Maryland.

Oh AND I played soccer freshman year but stopped for theatre. I always forget that one.

extracurriculars really doesn’t play a major factor in Clemson’s decision. It really depends on the difficulty of the classes you’ve taken (and you’ve taken several AP classes), whether there’s an upward trend with your grades (is it consistent or have you brought your GPA up over the last few years of HS), and in small part what reputation your high school has.

I had a 3.1 GPA but I took 5 AP classes, went to a high school that was ranked #100 in US News - and I also got a 34 on my ACT. So there are ways to overcome a bad GPA but Clemson’s gotten a lot more selective since I was accepted 5 years ago so some luck might be needed as well.

My freshman GPA was like a 3.4, my sophomore gpa was a 3.1 and my junior year is a 3.71. That’s a dramatic jump but I really got my head on right this year. How can I make it clear in my application that this wasn’t just a fluke?

Oh and does my being from out-of-state work towards or away from my advantage. I know they have a SC quota to fill but I bring in a lot more money so

The best way to do that is to get your grades as high as you can first semester senior year. Your midterm grades will get sent to Clemson for review so that’s a good way to show your junior year is what your academic performance is really like.

I’m not aware of any quotas but it’s usually 2/3rd in-state, 1/3rd out of state. That’s just how it’s always worked out.

good sat score! but i would definitely try and raise your GPA and make sure you can get the highest class rank possible for you. also, take the ACT and see how it goes (I know that test was a saving grace for one of my friends).

unfortunately, Clemson doesn’t weigh very heavily on EC’s.

I’m in the top 100 out of 500, but my county doesn’t actively rank

Clemson does superscore on the SAT. Your 1360 (R+M) is excellent.
