Can I get into M.I.T.?

I am currently a sophomore in high school in Puerto Rico and, for many years now, I have wanted to get into M.I.T., but I am not quite sure if I am doing everything I possibly can to get in.
I:
have a 4.0 unweighted GPA (I am not sure what it is weighted, but it is over 4.0)
take all honors classes and one AP (my school only offers one AP for sophomores)
am currently taking Pre-Calculus Honors (a grade ahead of the regular honors track) and plan to skip to AP Calculus BC next year
plan to take 5 AP classes next year, which include AP Calculus BC, AP Physics, AP Chemistry, AP Spanish Lit., and AP US History
compete in high school math competitions
have two silver medals and a gold medal from the Puerto Rico Mathematics Olympiad
compete in the annual Puerto Rico Science Olympiad, where we won a bronze and a gold medal
am in my school's math club, science club, Model United Nations Club, Community Service Club, and the NHS
volunteer in a home for abused children
play varsity soccer and basketball

I know that there are no set of requirements to guarantee you a place in MIT, but I am truly passionate about math and science and would like to know if there is anything else I should be doing to increase my chances.

Very good ECs so far, GPA is good too.

However, basing stuff off of circumstantial evidence alone isn’t really enough to give you any solid advice, especially without any idea of your SAT/ACT/SAT II scores (since you haven’t taken them yet).

You’re on a good path so far and I’d strongly recommend keeping up your work. However, I can’t give say much that I’m remotely assured on, nor would I expect anyone else; you’re a sophomore and college admissions is a couple years away, and with so much critical information missing…

However, there’s plenty of advice to pass around.

Get involved in more science Olympiad competitions like you have before. If you can, found a team; the top colleges LOVE leadership in extracurriculars.

Never let your GPA drop below a 3.9. Although some people get in with somewhat lower GPAs, they tend to have extraordinary extracurriculars to compensate for this. If anything, aim for that perfect 4.0 - trust me, it’ll help.

Work on ACT and SAT scores. You’re going to have to get 34+ on the ACT and 2250+ as a minimum baseline.

Do some SAT IIs for math. You seem to be good in it!

Hope I helped.

“2250+ is the minimum baseline”
“3.9 is terrible you must have 4.0 unless you have extraordinary ECs”

I laughed.

Welcome to MIT.

“2250+ is the minimum baseline”

Lowballing, seeing as the 25% has around 2300 composite.

“3.9 is terrible you must have 4.0 unless you have extraordinary ECs”

Yellow journalism at its greatest! I don’t think I ever espoused a statement even remotely close to that, but I suppose interpretations are in the eye of the beholder.

I’m hoping to get into MIT next year!

Gen Apo,
I took the SAT in 7th grade and got around 70% percentile in English and around 75% percentile in math. However, I took the PSAT this year and got 99% percentile on all three subjects with a perfect score in math.
Hopefully that helps you get a better idea of where I stand; and thanks for replying!

With that above PSAT info, I think you’ll do great on the standardized tests, being Puerto Rican will probably help, not sure if you’re considered “International” ? because financial aid might be a concern. Follow what GenApo said, it’s true

Keep it up and you’re very likely together in. Stay passionate and keep it fun.

meh. you never know with MIT. it’s soo selective (7ish percent this year). apply. good luck.

Dr. Bras (from PR) was a former chair of civil engineerig at M.I.T. I think you are on your way! Keep up the hard work. Also look into the MIT mites program. It’s a chance to visit MIT over the summer(as a Junior in HS) and take some classes. The best part is that it is all expenses paid!

lol at stopfreakingout…
