Can I Get Into Michigan?

ACT: 29

GPA: 3.5/4 (unweighted; 6 AP classes and a couple Honors classes)

Activities: Debate (I am one of the top 100 debaters in the country), Future Business Leaders of America (qualified to the National Leadership Conference twice), Tennis, Gay-Straight Alliance (Founder and President), Raising Student Voice and Participation (I am a member on the Lead Team; RSVP is an organization that asks students what they want changed about the school and we negotiate with the administration)

I plan to study political science and possibly major in economics as well.

Your ACT is below the 50th percentile and your GPA is well below the average for admitted students, so just based on those I’d say Michigan is a long reach for you, especially if you are out of state. But stranger things have certainly happened so it never hurts to apply, especially since your extra curriculars are solid. Write great essays and get good recs and who knows.

The only way to know is to apply. Strictly looking at your numbers, the answer is “not likely”
