Can I get into michigan?

Hi,
I know I’m probably making a fool of myself right now but can i get into michigan?
Honestly, It’s my dream school. Everything about it is incredible and I dont want to go anywhere else. I feel like I might not get in because last year (freshman year), I had incredibly bad grades.I hear that they like to see an upward trend. I ended up with a 3.1 weighted GPA. Most of my classes were honours. Last semester (I’m a sophomore) i tried my best and ended with a 3.9. I did move and school is easier here. I want to double major in musical theatre and BCN.

Freshman year:

Last semester:

EC:
I’ve done 5 high school productions as several main roles (the high school requested me to join their production as a middle schooler)
I was president/harmony teacher of the barbershop quintet I started
Serve the City
Choir
Relay for Life
Feminist Society
Vocal Jazz
I audition against several international schools’ vocalists for a spot in AMIS honour choir/honour jazz. I received alternate in jazz and choir my first time but this year I got in.

(Running for student government next year and doing more service)

Is there a chance? What can I do to increase my chances by senior year? Should I improve my ECs? Should I change my Ib choices for next year? What should I aim for ACTs and IB points?

Your unweighted GPA will need to be at least 3.0, and your ACT must be at least a 24. Those are the minimum requirements for the school of music theater and dance at Michigan. That may surprise you (certainly surprised me). I wouldn’t put too much emphasis on IBs or APs if you think there’s a chance they will drag your GPA down. The absolute key to being accepted will be your audition. You will have to show your talent, ability and unique “spark” that makes you stand out. If you believe you can excel in the audition, then you have a fighting chance!!

Oops I just noticed that you want to double major. I think your current unweighted GPA is likely too low for the second major. However, you do take lots of honors classes, so that probably makes a difference in how you get evaluated. Just do everything you can to shore up your unweighted GPA between now and senior year. I would advise posting your question regarding the BCN major in the main U of Michigan forum if you haven’t already. Just remember that there are always exceptions, and just because someone pronounces that you can or can’t get into Michigan doesn’t mean they’re correct. You are doing the right thing in addressing this now while you still have time!!

If you are looking to major in musical theatre at U-M you should understand that it is no joke. They accept about 12 people out of 700 into that program, and all of them are extremely talented and extremely career focused. People who study musical theatre at U-M are planning to be professional performers. For this program, your audition matters more than anything. It looks like your grades are good enough to get in academically. What’s important is that you are professional (knowing good audition etiquette, having clear cuts of music, knowing what to say to the accompanist, etc.), you follow their instructions to a T, you have good song and monologue choices, and you have prepared A LOT. I don’t know what it takes to get into the other program, but you should know what you’re getting into before you consider U-M musical theatre. It seems like you have a lot of experience, but your audition is really what will get you in or not.
