Can I get into Northeastern University?

I know it might be a bit of a reach, but can I get into Northeastern University with the following scores:

  • SAT: 1450 (700m + 750e)
  • GPA (weighted): 3.78
  • i took 4 aps this year, i am taking 7 aps next year
  • i am a senior member/ head of department in my schools robotics team which has been to the world championships four times
  • i practice classical piano (i have performed for charity numerous times)
  • i had a 1 year job at Kumon, tutoring in english and math
  • i am interning at Ecohealth Alliance (a nonprofit company that tracks and predicts goobal diseases through research etc.) -i am taking two SAT subject tests this year: biology and english

Northeastern is my dream school and I am really hoping these things can help me get in!

also i did classical ballet for 10+ years and reached level 5/5, did classical folk dancing for 10+ years and reached level 5/5, and frequently performed in my school’s Life Exists Against Drugs concerts

Northeastern does not consider subject tests, FYI. Your SAT is at the bottom 25% mark and your GPA is below it so it will be a reach, but not impossible. Worth the application but I would temper expectations. Your course rigor may help.

I agree with PengsPhils it is definitely worth the application. The internship and job will help as Northeastern is pre-professional, so make sure to include those on CommonApp. I got in civil Engineering with a 4.32 WGPA 4.0 UWGPA from a tiny private school in North Texas where I was 1/50. 34 ACT. I believe they superscore, which I unfortunately didn’t know until after the deadlines, becayse I have 35 superscore, but it didn’t matter. You should have a decent chance, just make sure you have many options you are happy with just in case.

Actually, you would be a stronger candidate for NUin, which is for really strong students who don’t have the highest GPA and SAT scores. They like entrepreneurship and the fact that you stuck with one or two extracurriculars and then excelled at them will boost your chances. It is better to do a few things VERY well than lots of things. Also, ballet and internships will count much more than things like Eagle Scouts, which are too common. You could also take the SAT again, since they superscore it.
