Ill start of my saying that I am a junior who attends an extremely competitive public school in Maryland.

GPA: 3.67

SAT: 2040 but that was my first and I WILL get it past 2100
720 writing, 670 math, 650 CR.

Ive taken only honors/AP courses:
AP Chem, Euro, Comparative Politics, Calculus (AB), Government, Environmental.

I was in track for 2 years and I was the treasurer of a community service club for 2 years. I will be starting a fundraising club next year sponsored by Oxfam- an international nonprofit agency and I hope to make at least $1,000 for it.
I will also have 2 amazing recs. from 2 very difficult and respected teachers.

That being said, what are my chances of getting into:
NYU, Rutgers, TCNJ, SUNY Stony Brook, Columbia, Pen State, Arcadia (pretty sure I can get in there), and UMD (also pretty sure about hat). I am also considering the New school-Eugene Lang and Fordham.

Are there any other schools within my range of credentials in NY or NJ?

If you have ~2100, I would also say you have a good chance @ all of those except Columbia, which would be a reach.

Other schools in NJ & NY to consider would be the other SUNY schools, Syracuse, Hofstra, and Seton Hall.

Are you interested in any schools in Pennsylvania? There are a lot of options there. (Lehigh, Lafayette, Villanova, etc etc etc)

Even though you gave your credentials, can you describe what you are looking for in a school? You named NYU and Penn State, which are two very different schools. Would you go to a small school, or are you only looking at big schools?

I have a friend that goes to Columbia who did not have the 4.0, he had a B+, A-. So Columbia is not impossible BUT it will be a reach. He also worked in the admissions office and said that a candidates desire for being AT Columbia and being IN NYC were huge factors. As long as you get interviews and do well on those you should be fine at NYU and Columbia. Just make sure you ace the essays :)

NYU really is a reach for anyone and columbia as I’m sure you are well aware is definitely a reach. You have a decent GPA and good SAT’s but still I think you should try to pump up your ec’s because NYU really likes that and if you want to be a competitive applicant for Columbia you have to fill in every gap.

btw NYU and Columbia do not offer interviews.

Apply to the Macaulay Honors Program at Hunter. Its a full ride (including a single room in NYC!). I’m going there next year. Might be hard for an OOS applicant though so you’d probobly need to get those scores way up (avg is 1410/1600).
