I'd say that you will be just fine.

does penn state really concern about service hrs? whats the mim hrs that we need to have?

No, PSU is a 'stats' school for admissions. The high school grade-point average (GPA) accounts for approximately two-thirds of the decision. The remaining one-third is based on other factors, which may include standardized test scores, class rank, personal statement and activities list.

This chart is old, from 2006, but it still may give you some idea of where you need to be: http://admissions.psu.edu/info/counselors/bubble_chart06.pdf

the no honors thing will hurt me right :(
i just try to do my best on the essay.

Our high school doesn't use the 4.0 scale, it uses actual averages from your classes (ie: 95). How does this convert to the GPA in the chart? (4.0 scale)

My HS does the same thing. But they had a GPA conversion chart posted on the wall. It goes something like this.

95+ = 4.0
94 = 3.9
93 = 3.8
92 = 3.7
91 = 3.6
90 = 3.5

89 = 3.4
88 = 3.3
87 = 3.2
86 = 3.1
85 = 3.0

etc....and it keeps going down.

I think these are okay stats. I had a 4.0/1100 and got into engineering for Fall. Your stats aren't fall off from mine. I think you have a decent shot if you're applying for general studies. Apply early though. I applied around early November (if that helps).

but i have no awards except for academic.

can i still have a chance?

Yes. They don't really look at that stuff.

then what do they look at?
i have only 2 honors classes, and 3 ap next yr.
i do alot of clubs and they all leadership role involment.

is it hard to swich classes there?
can you double major in different colleges in penn state and minor in one ?

Like others said, PSU doesn't care about extracurriculars (unless you're recruited as an athlete). They get so many applications that they don't have time to look at ECs, recommendations from lots of teachers, etc.

They go strictly by the numbers, as was said in a previous post.

No point in stressing about it, just get your application in as early as possible and apply to other schools too. My S applied in late August and did not even write the optional essay.

anyone got into PSU with relatively bad score of SAT?

I got into engineering (fall admission) with 1100 or 1660, and one section was in the 300's. Is that bad enough? The SAT is such a bad indicator, and I'm glad PSU knows that. Despite my 300, I ended my first year with 3.86.

lil killer, whats your high school GPA when you applied? and when did you apply?

Yeah, Penn State is smart to focus on the gpa. I feel like that is a better indicator of the success someone will have in college.

I think my high school GPA (weighted) was a 95.06 which converts to a 4.0 according to my HS conversion chart given in post #7. The only reason why it hit the 95 mark (or 4.0) was because during my freshman year of HS (last year they did this before changing the system), all honors/AP's were given a 20% boost. After my freshman year, all honors were given a 5% boost and AP's were given a 10% boost.

I applied during mid October. All transcripts, test scores, and application were in by November 1 or 2. I was accepted to engineering on November 13-14. It took approximately 2 weeks to hear back in the mail.

so i am planning on retaking the SAT in October, is it possible to apply early? do i have to wait till the SAT scores come out then apply? my GPA is 3.91, and if i make at least 1200/1600 on the SAT, do you think i will get accepted to it

Which college are you applying to? 3.91 is a strong gpa. What is your current SAT? If it is at least around 1140-1160, then apply around mid-early October and you should have no problem getting in.

it's really bad...not even 1100....thats why i need to retake it in october. and i am looking at ohio state univ(i live in ohio), purdue, and penn state
