GPA 2.8 SAT 1200/1600 . Many many extracurricular activities . Many life circumstances made me earn this GPA. I am not applying for financial aid. I will pay full tuition. A little more than Upper middle class. 3 years of varsity sports. Also, with a very strong essay. Can I also manage into getting into Temple University .
Also I have fluency in 3 languages
You can get into better universities and if you are full pay, you’ll have lots of choices.
Can you retake the SAT once more?
What classes are you taking senior year?
Have you taken any honors or AP class?
Any idea what you’d like to major in?
Fluency in what three languages? That could be a nice boost if you can double major/minor in one.
I don’t think I am taking the SAT agian. I have taken all College Prep courses in freshmen and sophomore year. I have taken 2 honors classes in junior year . I am fluent in English,Turkish & Arabic. I am probably majoring in as an MBA. What other colleges do you think I have a chance with?
MBAs aren’t undergraduate degrees, they’re for college graduates with 2-5 years professional experience (average age is 27-30).
Do you mean you want to study business?
Can you get external certification for your languages, perhaps from a cultural center exam?
A better SAT would open more doors and there’s a session in August.
As a full pay student and with your current profile, you could get into SUNY Albany, Penn State Altoona 2+2 ( you’d graduate from the main campus), UNC Wilmington or Charlotte, Susquehanna, UScranton, St Michael’s…
Yes , I want to study business. So, basically what you are saying is the full pay would get me in pretty good places . Also, I believe that I could get certificates of my languages from a cultural center.
Do you think I will be able to get into Pennsylvania State University Main Campus or Temple University?
Temple probably, perhaps not Fox business though. Penn State Main, no, GPA and course rigor are 2/3 of the decision and the lowest they go is 3.4 for main campus (3.55 is bottom 25% ie., hooked candidates such as athletes). You’d be okay for the 2+2 with Penn State Altoona or Harrisburg as a starting point though.
Okay I understand. What majors do you think I will get into at Temple University?
I’m also guessing that I’d get a chance at Rutgers Camden? Also a friend of mine got accepted to Rutgers Camden with a 2.7 GPA with all college prep courses and a 1045 SAT.
Apply to Temple undecided. Show what you’re capable of and get into Fox based on your college grades (same thing for Penn state’s 2+2, apply DUS and show your mettle while in college.)
You should apply to 2 safeties, 3-4 matches, and as many reaches as you wish or can afford.
I’d pick Temple over Rutgers Camden any day if it’s affordable. Many if not most full pay kids in NJ go to college in PA or NYS or further south. Or is money a concern? Because it’d clearly affect your list. Have you run the NPC and discussed results with your parents? If not, do so today.
Look into all universities listed above, fill out the Request info form, talk with your parents about costs, see what their constraints are.
My budget is around 60,000 without financial aid.
Then I don’t see why you’d pick Rutgers Camden when all the universities listed above are better and for most in much nicer locations.
If you like sunny climes, you also have Eckerd (reach), Barry, University of South Florida…
I also have another question. Do you think I would be able to major in as a computer science at Rutgers Camden?
If you want to stay closer to home, you might want to consider Rowan (Rohrer business school).
Why in the world Rutgers Camden when you have the stats and the budget to go elsewhere?? I mean, even not that far but in a better location, still in New Jersey, you have Rowan …
Not to be the bearer of bad news, but according to the chart: https://admissions.rutgers.edu/applying/admissions-profile while your SAT Scores are around 50th percentile for students admitted into Camden Business and Camden Arts and Sciences, your GPA is below 25th percentile.
Some better fitting NJ schools with safer campuses might be:
Kean University
Montclair State University
Rider University
Or, another option might be to just attend community college for two years, show that you can maintain a high GPA, and then transfer into a top tier school like Rutgers New Brunswick.
I’m kind of scared that I won’t get accepted into any of these universities. Is there anything else that would make me stand out ? Rowan’s average gpa is 3.54 witch is way higher than my gpa of 2.7 .
My son had a 2.8, 1150 SAT. 4 year 2 sport varsity athlete. He’s attending Rowan in the gal, although not business. He was accepted to Rowan, Stockton, Ramapo, Kutztown (only 19k/year for NJ residents), Millersville and Bloomsburg. His friend with similar stats was accepted to Rowan for Computer science and another to Bloomsbury for business. Those medians posted above aren’t cut and dry- don’t be discouraged from trying some other schools!
*in the fall- sorry typing on my phone!
