My dream school has been Stern School of Business for so long, but now I’m not sure if I can get in. Here are my stats-
- Asian (Indian)
- GPA- 3.5 (out of 4.0)
- SAT- 1410 :Math(750) and English(660)
- Lives in a neighboring state
My GPA is sort of low because of my sophomore year grades, which was when my mother was diagnosed with cancer.
So what are my chances of getting in?
Your admission is going to depend on a few things
1 - how you communicate the idea that your mom had cancer and how you changed/were affected as a result of it.
2 - If that is the only thing holding your stats down
3 - what your ECs are - you never listed them
Also your number 4 (the fact that you live in a neighboring state) is irrelevant. That will not help, especially since I’m guessing that you probably live in NJ or PA. Application such as these are really subjective, so asking someone to chance you is not going to benefit you at all, except possibly give you a false sense of rejection/hope. With that being said, good luck with your application. Although I couldn’t give any “useful” advice, I stand by what I said - I don’t think anyone on this forum is qualified enough to chance your specific application considering your situation.
I’ve been apart of the All School Council for 3 years and have raised a total of $22,000 for NAMI (organization which related to mental health). I work at Kumon. I volunteer at a medical center (matheny), but cut down on my hours, since I also have to take care of my mom. I’m apart of my school’s math league. And I’m apart of an organization known as Girls Who Code. I used to do Varsity Track, but then had to stop because I couldn’t commit that sort of time anymore. Those are my main extracurriculars I guess. There’s some more ECs, but not as important. Most of my classes are AP and Honors, but my GPA dropped a lot due to 2 specific classes in my sophomore year because I was unable to balance my time between taking care of my mom and my academics. And I plan on EDing to Stern.
Do you have leadership positions? Those could help.
I don’t really have any leadership positions because I had to take a break from my extracurriculars during my sophomore year for an obvious reason. I did run for an executive board position for the All School Council, but then lost. Most executive board positions at the clubs in my school are given during junior year, so because I had to cut back on my club hours, I wasn’t able to earn an executive board position during my junior year.
