So, I am about to be a senior in high school. I have done a lot of school research and my number one top choice is definitely Syracuse. I know its selective and I just really want to know where i would fall in line with the other students applying. I plan to apply for early decision because i basically know I will go there on the chance I get accepted. So here’s my resume: I have a 3.3 GPA. I have taken honors/AP English all four years. My senior year schedule is more on the difficult side, I’m taking Forensics SUPA honors (Syracuse University Project Advance) as well as honors Italian, college credit Psychology/Sociology, AP European History, AP Stat. I’m not sure how much course rigor is a factor. I got a 1600 on the old SAT and a 1130 on the new SAT. But I also have a ton of leadership. I was Secretary of Student Council my junior year, and this year I am Vice President, I am DECA president, which is a business club, I am class Historian, I’m in Key Club, Peer leaders, and I am captain of the field hockey team. I think I have a lot to offer in a leadership aspect but I recently read that College Admission Offices wont even look at leadership if the grades aren’t up to par and that really got me questioning my chances of getting in. My major will be Forensic Science. Thank you
This is straight from their website, “For students entering the University in the fall semester of 2015, the average GPA was 3.63. Average SAT was 1190 (M/CR) and ACT average composite was 27.” Your test scores and GPA are on the low-side, so I really wouldn’t apply ED.
Your GPA and SAT scores may be on the lower side for the website stats but the college you apply to at SU vastly changes your chances. For example, the Newhouse acceptance rate is 9% but the College of Arts and Sciences is much much higher. You have to factor in how competitive the specific college at SU is.
I disagree with this. If you apply ED, you have a much greater chance of getting in, as evidenced by Syracuse’s 73% ED acceptance rate compared with their 53% regular decision rate. They’ll have a greater chance of accepting you because you’re showing that Syracuse is your #1 choice, and thus the admissions office will be more likely to pay less attention to the deficiencies in your application. The whole point of ED is to apply to your dream school, even if it’s a reach. Your stats are reasonably close with the average stats at Syracuse, and you have some impressive leadership in your ECs, so I would say go for it.
Oh jeez, thank you so much! That made me much less nervous!!
You’ll most likely be accepted ED. Show a lot of interest, remember this is binding.
