Can I get into the Coast Guard Academy?

i am a junior in high school right now looking to go into the academy. I have a 4.1 gpa (because i take honors and a.p courses), probably around a 3.75 unweighted at the lowest, number 64 in my class of 531, double varsity athlete (i attended states my first year for both sports and am captain of one team), in a law enforcement academy at my high school, and i am involved in various volunteer groups. However, my SAT scores were lacking (i am not a very good cumulative test taker) and only scored about a 1650 out of 2400. This was my first shot without studying so hopefully next time i take them it will be higher. Any opinions on how much of a chance i stand and/or things i can do to make me seem more appealing to admissions? Thanks!

I found this on the CGA webs site:
Standardized Test Scores:
• Median SAT: 635 Math, 605 Verbal, 1240 Combined
• Median ACT: 28 Math, 27 English

You are well under the SAT and, if it follows the same criteria as the other academies (I can’t imagine why it wouldn’t) you need a higher score. Try the ACT as an alternative. Otherwise you’re doing great.

thanks for the help!

What really helps with getting into CGA is showing why you are a good fit. Attend AIM and contact your regional admissions office to show your interest. If you are a girl or a URM, then this will be a plus since the Academy is lacking in these. Leadership is also very important to CGA since you will become an officer upon graduation. My brother goes to CGA so you can PM if you have specific questions

Thank you for all the help!

Just PM me and I’ll ask for you
