What are my chances of getting into the United States Coast Guard Academy?

Hi,

At this point I am a junior in high school. I go to one of the most rigorous schools in Minnesota (an all-male, catholic, independent military academy). I have a weighted GPA of 4.2 and take a difficult class load. I am on my school’s Experimental Vehicle Team (we build one to two person electric cars), Model: UN team, and I run cross country. I will likely be a captain next fall for my senior year. I am physically fit, Latino (I don’t know if that helps, but I hope it doesn’t matter), and I get good grades. Next year I am planning on taking AP BC Calc (calc 2), AP Environmental Science, AP Econ, AP stats, and AP English, in addition to some other less notable classes. Do I have a decent chance of getting into the Coast Guard Academy?

Thanks.

Hi!
I am headed to the CGA this summer with the Class of 2020. I applied Early Action to the Academy and was accepted. It sounds like your resume is probably more impressive than mine and I wouldn’t worry too much about getting in, I think you have a great chance. If you wanted to add to your resume I would look into attending AIM this summer. It is the Academy’s introductory program which gives you insight on swab summer. I attended last year and it was definitely something that helped me. Hope that helps! Let me know if you need more detailed information.
