Hi!
I applied to Ohio State this Saturday and I just wanted some thoughts on how much of a chance I have to get accepted there. I really want to be accepted, and I'm kind of freaking out so if you could let me know, that would be amazing! Here is some information:

GPA: 3.48 (keep in mind, I go to a Catholic High School. Our grading scale is a little harder than most, if I was on a public school scale I'd have a 3.89 gpa)
Honors and AP/ Accelerated Courses: Accelerated Geometry, Accelerated Chemistry, AP Psychology, AP English, Honors Anatomy and Physiology, Honors French IV, AP American Government, AP US History.
ACT Score: 29 (english: 33, math: 27, reading: 31, science: 24... This was my second time taking it, the first time I got a 27 on Science and an 8 on writing, I sent both set of scores in)

I've also played piano for six years, I am part of the Nellie's Club at my school which helps kids with different types of cancer, I am part of French Club, I do community service pretty regularly, and I am in the National Honor Society at school.

I had three recommendations all together: one from my French teacher, one from a physics teacher, and one from my counselor.

I am Indian and I live in Columbus, Ohio.

I would really appreciate your input so that I can somehow keep myself from going off the deep end! Please reply ASAP! Thanks so much!

If your high school is as competitive as you say it is, I’d say you have a great chance-- especially because you are in-state! Did you make it clear in your application that your school is really difficult and your GPA should be higher? Also, did you send any AP scores?

P.S. GO BUCKS :)

I think you have a good chance but you can’t be sure anymore with tOSU. They are getting more competetive every day! And tOSU doesn’t request recs so I don’t know how much impact those are going to have. They seem to be very stats driven. Also, I see Calculus, AP Calc and Accelerated or AP Physics missing from your course list. Did you take those? If you did that would be a plus. The AP’s that you took seem to be the less difficult ones, so that may be a problem. I don’t think that in-state matters as tOSU LOVES OOS students.

Also, I would be very careful what you say about your GPA and public schools. Alot of publics in Ohio are on the 94-100 A grading scale and alot of kids from Ohio publics (applying to tOSU) have higher than 29 ACT scores, so you can’t generalize like that.

But all in all I think you have a good chance. Good luck. :)

Thanks so much guys! I really appreciate you taking time out of your day to give me some sanity. To answer some questions: the transcripts my school sends out has our grading scale and a profile of our school on it. A lot of kids go to Ohio State from my school, we’re five minutes away from the main campus, so OSU definitely knows who we are. I haven’t taken any AP tests yet, but I will be taking English and Government later on. I’m taking Pre-Calc, Physics, and Theology as my other three non-AP/Honors classes. I didn’t mean to generalize about public schools, I was just writing from experience. From the public school students that I’ve spoken to, their grading scales have more leeway than my school. I never intended to put down public schools or anything. I realize that there are probably much harder public schools in this country. Finally, I’ve attended Catholic schools from kindergarten! I’ve learned to deal with it :)

I have a question for you. How strong are you compared to the other students in your school? Since you go to a school that close to Ohio, you can use students that have been admitted in previous years as a reference. I was in a similar situation to you my senior year of high school in that I went to a high school that is literally adjacent to Michigan Stadium and had about 150 accepted every year out of 720. I found that using people who were admitted in previous years was a pretty good reference, much better than anything anyone here can tell you. I suggest that you use your school to estimate your own chances because that will be by far the most accurate indicator you can find.

hey guys! I just checked my application status yesterday to see that it had changed from evaluation to accepted! thanks so much for your input and GO BUCKS!
